Paint failures due to Moisture
Interior paint failures due to moisture are easy to locate and occur at some specific places. Kitchen, Bathrooms, side walls and ceiling are the moist areas. The constant presence of water on the wall surface result into blistering, leaching or wrinkling of the paint coat.
Blistering
Painting on a dry, damp or a hot surface result into blistering. It causes the paint film to lift from the underlying surface. Surface heat or moisture on the surface results in poor adhesion of the paint on the surface. This condition eventually leads to peeling.
Leaching
All latex paints contain surfactants to make the paint application on the surface easy. Surfactants are water soluble. When the latex paint is applied in area where moisture is present or come in contact with water, (rain. Dew, bathroom areas etc.) Surfactants start to concentrate at that place. Lower temperature causes the surfactants to separate out from paint and hover over the paint coating. When that moisture dries down the residue stays behind resulting in unsightly runs of paint and stains.
Wrinkling
Painting under unlikely weather conditions like extremely cold or extremely hot climate causes paint film to dry down unevenly. Wrinkling occurs when paint film on the top dries faster than the paint film on the bottom. The heavy paint application is another possible cause. Wrinkling makes the appearance of paint surface extremely rough and crinkled.
Paint problems due to Incompatible Paint Layers
Mildew
Mildew is a type of Mold which usually grows on living plant. Incompatible paint layers are responsible for moisture accumulation gives a fair condition for a mildew to grow on the surface. Molds grow on a dark colored spot or shaded areas.
Poor Color Hiding
If the top layer is incompatible with the underlying layer, it cannot hide the underlying layer properly. Certain paint colors like red, yellow, orange offer poor color hiding.
Poor Sheen Uniformity
Overly thin top coating and uneven application of paint coating are responsible for poor uniformity. It makes the paint films appearance unevenly glossy with shiny and/or dull spots on the paint film.
Painting Problems due to the Quality of Paint
Choosing high-quality paint is the most crucial part of the entire painting phenomenon. High-quality paints are expensive and they look the same as low-quality paints. Though the appearance is the same the ingredients are performance is a long take over the low-quality paints. High quality paints contents more pigment and resins so they hide well. The paint coating remains thicker and they do a better job of filling and blocking the underlying color.
Low-quality paint has poor pigmentation so the performance of the paint layer is weak and they can capture the moisture soon. Choosing a low-quality paint is not a good idea after considering that they have a weak resistance against moisture which can eventually lead to paint failures like blocking, burnishing, caulk failure, cracking flaking, foaming, lapping.
